STEPS TOWARDS SAFE RAIL
TRAVEL
The Commission of Railway Safety in pursuance of its duties and in course of its working has been making recommendations on items which effect the safety of rail passengers. The efforts put in by the Commission of Railway Safety has resulted in implementation of undermentioned items which have directly/indirectly resulted in safe running of passenger trains -
# Commissioning of Vacuum Degassing Plant for manufacture of rails.
# Commissioning
of on Line ultrasonic Testing and Eddy Current Testing of rails.
# Need
Based concept of ultra sonictesting has been introduced for testing of Rails
laid in the track.
# Walkie-Talkie
sets have been provided to the Guards and Drivers of
passenger trains.
# Provision
of Emergency Exit Door in the coaches for escape of passengers in case of accidents.
# Improved
design of Vestibules for safety of passenger and staff.
# Fire Resistant
Design on EMU’s to reduce Fire Hazards.
# Improved
design of Tail Lamps for providing better visibility.
# Banning
Goods Train Operation without Brakevans.
# Movement
of trains under restricted speed during foggy weather.
# Provision
of complete Track Circuiting in Station Yards.
# Design of
speedometers have been improved for enhanced reliability and better
recording/retrieving of information .
# Provision
of Audio Visual Device in Locomotives to alert
Drivers
in case of Alarm chain pulling.
# Upgradation
of educational qualification of train Examining
Staff.
# Psycho Testing
of passenger and high speed train Drivers.
# Setting
up of rail-wheel interaction study cell in R&D
# Center at
Lucknow alongwith creation of chair at I.I.T. Roorkee.
# Locking
arrangement for non interlocked gates.
# Provision
of automatic switching on of flasher lights in locomotives.
# Provision
of voice recorder in control room.
# Fitment of quick coupling in Brake Van of Air Brake is made mandatory for issue of Brake Power Certificates.
